The volumes resulting from the ICMI Studies appear in the New ICMI Studies Series (NISS) published by Springer under the general editorship of the President and the Secretary-General of ICMI.
Twenty-four studies have been completed.
Three ICMI Studies are currently in process:
ICMI Study 27 “Mathematics Education and the Socio-Ecological”
In April 2023 the ICMI EC announced the launching of the 27th ICMI Study on "Mathematics Education in the Socio-Ecological".
Extension of Paper Submission Deadline: 27th ICMI Study, Mathematics Education and the Socio-Ecological
final paper submissions is extended until 24 June, 2024, UTC 11.59pm (extended from 15 June, 2024). We welcome papers on issues in mathematics education that span social (including political) and ecological (environmental) problems, and related ethical concerns. Papers should respond to one of four themes (each with subthemes): (A) Aims of mathematics education; (B) Scales of mathematics education; (C) Resources of and for mathematics education; and (D) Mathematics education futures. Full details are available in the May 2024 Discussion Document (with Addendum), available on the Study website (https://icmistudy27.sciencesconf.org), where papers should be submitted.
See this website for more information
The Discussion Document is accessible here. The Discussion Document (DD), details the study and is a call for contributions.
(A short version of the DD is accessible here).
The ICMI Study 27 Conference will take place from January 22 (Wednesday) to January 26 (Sunday), 2025, in Quezon City, Philippines.
This addendum should be read in conjunction with the full Discussion Document, which is included below, and available here: https://icmistudy27.sciencesconf.org
The International Program Committee (IPC) for ICMI 27 Study invites submissions from those working on issues in mathematics education that span social (including political) and
ecological (environmental) problems, and related ethical concerns.
The nature of this relatively new, but growing area of mathematics education, and of an ICMI Study itself, requires diverse voices, experiences, and knowledges, produced in collaborations involving researchers, teachers, teacher educators, policy makers, and other stakeholders from diverse contexts and sites of education. The IPC is committed to creating a range of opportunities for contribution and participation, as listed below, that will give visibility to the diversity of current work relevant to the topic towards building knowledge on the topic. We thus invite interested colleagues to submit papers for consideration for the Study, even if they may not be able to, as yet, commit to attending the Study Conference in January 2025, e.g., for financial reasons.
Our commitment to inclusivity, includes:
• Considering empirical and theoretical papers of up to 8-pages. We want to emphasize the Study welcomes shorter papers also, including work in progress/development contributions, that respond to the themes and subthemes of (A) Aims of mathematics education; (B) Scales of mathematics education; (C) Resources of and for mathematics education; and (D) Mathematics education futures. Deadline June 15, 2024.
• Considering papers first written in a language of the authors’ choice, where what is submitted is subsequently translated into English by the author using a reliable online tool (i.e., the review and revision process will be supportive, in relation to written English).
• Offering pre-submission support for paper development and writing. Deadline May 30, 2024.
• Giving visibility to all ideas /accepted contributions in the Study Conference Proceedings (published online, with an ISBN).
• Hosting the Study Conference - a key forum for analyzing and moving the field forward in the Study Volume - in a developing, lower-middle income country, thus harnessing local and regional knowledges.
• Creating a Solidarity Fund to support participation in the Conference.
• Considering relevant contributions in the production of the Study Volume, the nature of which will take shape during and after the Conference (with authorship centred around conference participation).
1. Call for proposals (paper submission): from February 2024
2. Pre-submission support deadline: May 30, 2024
3. Deadline for proposals (paper submission): June 15, 2024
4. Invitations to participate mailed: between July 30 and August 15, 2024
5. Registration: opens on July 30, 2024, and closes November 1, 2024
