On this page you will find a selection of profiles of some female mathematicians from Latin America. Please let us know if you are aware of other good sources which might be included.

On this page you will find some general sources for biographies of women mathematicians. Please let us know if you are aware of other good sources which might be included.

This website is the reponsibility of the IMU's Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM). Communications concerning the website can be directed to cwm.info@mathunion.org.

The website was originally created by the Women in Mathematics Webpages Advisory Group under the oversight of the International Mathematical Union and under the leadership of its then President, Ingrid Daubechies. It was designed as a service to the international community and launched on August 12, 2014, immediately prior to the ICM in Seoul.

CWM has established over 150 special correspondents worldwide, each of whom has the job of disseminating information such as CWM funding calls in her geographical or mathematical neighbourhood, and also of keeping CWM informed about activities or initiatives to be announced on this website.

Recently various bodies have issued statements or produced policy documents outlining their commitment to promoting full participation of female mathematicians. `Good policy’ refers to institutional policies aimed at removing potential barriers to women in the workplace, of example lack of access to suitable childcare facilities. We start with some items about the issues and examples of good practice for bringing children to conferences.

Funding mechanisms to support mathematical sciences vary widely across the world. Here is some information about funding that relates particularly to women. Information about grants that relate particularly to CWM and the IMU may be found here

CWM sponsors a number of events and activities with the aim of encouraging women in mathematics, with priority given to  developing or emerging countries. Our main focus has been aimed at establishing or supporting networks at the continental or regional level. Other events, workshops and projects have also been supported.

Associations in individual countries with a regional impact have also been sponsored.

In 2015, CWM sponsored activities in Kenya (Africa) and Brazil (Latin America).
