The Fields Medal Symposium is an activity of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, Toronto, Canada, which is endorsed by the International Mathematical Union.
Each year, the Fields Institute organizes the Fields Medal Symposium to portray and honor a Fields Medalist and his or her work. The first Symposium took place in 2012. The several day Symposium does not only bring together excellent mathematicians to encourage and foster research areas of winners of the Fields Medal, it also addresses a wider audience comprising graduate students and scientists working in other fields. The Fields Medal Symposium, presenting a general audience lecture by a Fields Medalist, thus, is also an important contribution to outreach and popularization efforts in the field of mathematics.
