After a 6 month delay caused by the volcano eruption, the ICMI Study 20 Conference began in Lisbon, Portugal, and it will last till Friday, October 15.
The first plenary speaker was Thomas A. Grandine, a specialist in geometric modeling and numerical analysis in the Mathematics and Engineering Analysis group of the Boeing Company, Seattle, USA.
The second plenary was given by Celia Hoyles, but as she could not come this time, the talk was prerecorded and the questions in the end were made via skype (HiTech conference...).
The discussions in the working groups have been very vivid. A lot of people with very different backgrounds and experiences makes this possible.
Let's hope the Study book to be published in 2011 reflects all this richness.
