2025

In 2025, CWM call received 61 applications, of which 13 will be supported. Some of the selected projects aim to support continental and regional networks for women in mathematics, such as activities led by the African Women in Mathematics Association (AWMA), the Meeting of Women in Mathematics in Central Africa in Congo, and the establishment of the Arab Women in Mathematics Network. CWM is also supporting research workshops aimed at establishing research networks for women in Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, and Nigeria. Additionally, CWM is supporting networking activities for women in mathematics in Argentina, India, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe, as well as a math camp for young women in Iran. Depending on the nature of the project, CWM funding is directed toward infrastructure, travel expenses, and accommodation support for women participants from developing countries.

African Women in Mathematics: Challenging questions and Women in SAGE-Tunisia

This is a project led by the African Women in Mathematics Association (AWMA) and consists of two events. The first one is the conference “African Women in Mathematics: Challenging questions” is designed to explore challenging questions in mathematics, encourage collaborative problem-solving, and provide a platform for discussions on the future of African women in mathematics. The second one is the workshop “Women in SAGE-Tunisia”. This is a project, WIS-Africa, addressed to young African researchers and graduate students, already organized in Senegal 2021, Nigeria 2022, Uganda 2023 and Burundi 2024. The workshop includes 6 projects mentoring by group leaders around various domains of mathematics and using the software SageMath.

Meeting of Women in Mathematics in Central Africa

Meeting of Women in Mathematics in Central Africa

This is a 2-day event associated with the African Mathematical Schools of CIMPA, scheduled for July 2024 at the Marien Ngaoubi University, Brazzaville, Congo. It is dedicated to women researchers working in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as undergraduate students. It will consist of research presentations, as well as discussions.

Empowering Arab Women in Mathematics: Building Bridges for Collaboration and Growth

This initiative aims to establish the Arab Women in Mathematics Network (AWMN) — a platform to empower women mathematicians across the Arab world. The network will address challenges like limited resources, isolation, and underrepresentation while promoting networking and mentorship opportunities. The project will launch with a one-day workshop at Ain Shams University, Cairo, in honor of Professor Entisarat El Shobaky. This will be followed by a two day hybrid conference on May 17-18, 2025, featuring keynote speakers, research, and a database of Arab women’s contributions to mathematics.

Women in Algebraic and Geometric Topology, Dynamical Systems and Evolution Algebras

This Brazilian project aims to promote collaboration and mentorship among women researchers in mathematics, with a focus on algebraic and geometric topology, group theory, and related areas. It will include a Research Collaboration Conference to take place in February 2026, where researchers will collaborate on four pre-defined projects.

Collaborative Workshop for Women in Graph Theory

Combinatorics, especially Graph Theory, is an emerging research field in Indonesia. Women combinatorists are heavily involved in its development, including leadership in the Indonesian Combinatorial Society. Although many collaborations have been established with foreign counterparts, there are few of those in Southeast Asian countries. Through this workshop, we hope to initiate collaborations with women combinatorists from Southeast Asia. The workshop is a problem-solving workshop, where problems are introduced at the beginning, and the rest is dedicated to discussion towards the solution of the problems. It is hoped to start some collaborations that can be continued remotely afterward.

Second Meeting of Women in Topology, Geometry, and their Applications

The Second Meeting of Women in Topology, Geometry and their Applications fosters a safe, inclusive, and intellectual environment for individuals who identify as women and non-binary people assigned female at birth to share and develop mathematical projects. It will take place in Mexico in September 2025, and will feature plenary talks by leading women researchers, networking sessions, a poster session, and a round table to share experiences and discuss the challenges of working in male-dominated fields. By highlighting accomplished women mathematicians and building connections, it encourages mentorship, collaboration, and community. An outreach session will engage local girls and teens, inspiring them to consider careers in mathematics.

Second African Women in Algebra Workshop

African Women in Algebra (AWA) is an association of African women working in algebra and its applications. AWA is organizing the Second African Women in Algebra Workshop, scheduled to take place from August 4th to 9th, 2025, at the University of Abuja, Nigeria. The event follows the success of the inaugural African Women in Algebra Workshop held in July 2024 at Kabale University in Uganda. The African Women in Algebra Workshops aim to provide a supportive and collaborative research environment tailored to the unique challenges faced by African women. These workshops are strategically designed to empower women in algebraic careers, fostering their interest and advancement in algebra.

Bridging Gender Gaps in Algebra in the Southern Cone

The purpose of this project is to support South American women mathematicians attending the X Encuentro Nacional de Álgebra, which will take place in Córdoba, Argentina. Additionally, the event will feature workshops aimed at raising awareness and seeking solutions to gender inequalities, as well as a networking session for female professors and students looking for advisors for their undergraduate or graduate theses.

Indian Women in Mathematics Activities in 2025

The Indian Women in Mathematics (IWM) has been actively involved towards encouraging more women to pursue higher education in mathematics, and providing an environment and exposure to new trends that enable them to take up careers in mathematics. The IWM organizes several activities throughout the year. The venues are chosen to reach women from varied geographic and socio-economic backgrounds. Taking our events to smaller centers around the country has significantly increased IWM’s reach and benefited women who would have otherwise not had exposure to world-class mathematics. The map indicating all the activities organized by IWM over the years can be accessed here.

Kenyan Women in Mathematical Sciences Association Workshop 2025: Empowering African Women in Mathematics for Education and Entrepreneurship

Across Africa, women in mathematics play a vital yet underrepresented role in education, research, and entrepreneurship. Despite their potential to drive innovation, they face barriers such as limited access to resources and leadership opportunities. To address these challenges, the Kenyan Women in Mathematical Sciences Association will host a two-day workshop. This event will provide participants with skills, networks, and mentorship to excel in educational innovation and digital entrepreneurship. By fostering knowledge sharing and empowerment, the workshop aims to enable African women to leverage mathematics for societal and economic transformation and promote inclusive growth.

Nigerian Women in Mathematics 5th Biennial Conference
