In 2023, CWM call received 48 applications, of which CWM decided to support 11. Some of the selected projects aim at supporting continental networks for women in mathematics, such as the 1st meeting of the Asian and Oceanian Women in Mathematics (AOWM) in India, the 3rd Meeting for Latin American Women in Mathematics in Colombia, the 3rd Southeast Asian Women Mathematicians Meeting in Indonesia, and a network meeting organised by the Commission of African Women in Mathematics of the African Mathematical Union (AMU-CAWM) in Morocco. CWM is also supporting networking activities for women in mathematics in Cuba, India, Nepal and Nigeria, the global May 12 initiative, and two research workshops geared towards establishing research networks for women, in Uganda and Uruguay. Depending on the nature of the project, CWM funding goes to infrastructure, webpage’s creation and update, travel expenses and accommodation support for participants from developing countries.
May 12 - Celebrating Women in Mathematics is a joint initiative of the European Women in Mathematics, the Association for Women in Mathematics, the African Women in Mathematics Association, the Indian Women and Mathematics, the CDG-UMALCA (Comisión de Género y Diversidad de Unión Matemática de América Latina y el Caribe) and the Women’s Committee of the Iranian Mathematical Society.
The Asian and Oceanian Women in Mathematics (AOWM) platform was launched in 2022. The first hybrid meeting of AOWM will take place in April 2023 at ICTS, Bangalore, India.
The Meetings for Latin American Women in Mathematics aim to strengthen the Latin American network of women in mathematics. The 1st edition took place in Mexico in 2016, and the 2nd edition took place in Chile in 2018. The 3rd one will take place in Tunja, Colombia, in June 2023.
The 3rd edition of the Southeast Asian Women Mathematicians Meeting will take place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in July 2023, in line with the 9th Southeast Asian Mathematical Society Conference 2023. The 1st edition took place in Indonesia in 2019, and the 2nd edition took place virtually in 2021.
This 2-day network conference is organised by the AMU-CAWM in parallel to a CIMPA school in Rabat, Morocco in October/November 2023. It aims at establishing the Northern Africa Women in Mathematics Association.
This is a networking event for the female participants of the ZIGZAG School of Physics and Mathematics without Frontiers, which will take place in in La Habana, Cuba, with the participation of students from different countries in Central America and the Caribbean.
The collective IWM develops several activities to support women in mathematics, such as workshops, mini-courses, a visitor program, and the IWM Annual Conference.
The Women of Nepal in Mathematical Sciences (WoNiMS) Annual Conference 2023 is a 3-day event to take place in Kathmandu, Nepal, in November/December 2023.
This hybrid networking project is dedicated to women researchers working in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students from three institutions in Nigeria and one in Ghana.
Since 2007, more than 100 Sage Days have been organised around the world. Women in Sage days have been organised in United States, South Korea, France, Canada, Greece, Senegal and Nigeria. The 3rd edition in Africa will take place in September 2023 at Makerere University, Uganda, with the support of the African Women in Mathematics Association (AWMA) and Uganda Women Mathematicians (UGAWOM).
This is the second edition of a research workshop geared towards establishing research networks for women in South America. The activities will be carried out virtually throughout 2023, with a final face to face workshop in Montevideo, Uruguay, in February 2024. The first edition of the event took place in Uruguay in 2018.
