In Paraguay, the Ministry of Education and Science is the state entity that holds the steering role in the field of education, and its purpose is to guarantee education as a public asset and an essential human right.

The Ministry performs its competencies and functions within the framework of the provisions of the National Constitution and the General Education Law No. 1264/98 and, with the Organic Charter approved by Law No. 5749/2017, structures its functions and its central and territorial teams seeking the strengthening of educational management for the improvement of learning.

The Ministry manages the education levels in the official sector: Initial and basic school, high school, and non-university tertiary, and also supervises the activities of the private and subsidized private sector.
