BGF grants are funded by the generous donations from Breakthrough Prize winners. The award of full PhD grants goes to students from developing countries engaged in a PhD degree in the mathematical sciences in a developing country. The 2024 recipients are as follows (listed in alphabetical order):
Copernic Boungouendji is a student from Gabon. He received a four year doctoral fellowship to to pursue a PhD at the Masuku University. His research will focus on Arithmetic of pro-p extensions of number fields with given local conditions under the supervision of Prof. Tony Ezome (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Libreville, Gabon).
Damián Eduardo Cedeño López is a student from Ecuador. He received a four year doctoral fellowship to to pursue a PhD at the Escuela Politécnica Nacional. His research will focus on Bilevel Learning with Total Variation Regularization for Seismic Imaging of Magmatic Chambers under the supervision of Prof. Juan Carlos De Los Reyes Bueno (Center for Mathematical Modeling (MODEMAT), Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Ecuador).
Halima Yusuf is a student from Nigeria. She received a four year doctoral fellowship to to pursue a PhD at the African University of Science and Technology. Her research will focus on variation inclusion approach to adaptive radiation treatment planning under the supervision of Prof. Usman Abdulmalik (African University of Science and Technology, Nigeria).
Ngo Thi Thuong is a student from Viet Nam. She received a four year doctoral fellowship to to pursue a PhD at the VNU University of Sciences. Her research will focus on efficient methods for variational inequalities and equilibrium problems under the supervision of Prof. Pham Ky Anh (VNU University of Sciences, Viet Nam).
Tamojit Sadhukhan is a student from India. He received a four year doctoral fellowship to to pursue a PhD at the Indian Statistical Institute. His research will focus on studies in random processes with memories under the supervision of Prof. Krishanu Maulik ( Indian Statistical Institute, India).
