The CIMPA school “Hyperplane Arrangements: Recent Advances and Open Problems” in Hanoi introduced a modern and very active area of mathematics to the audience in Vietnam and the region. The school is primarily oriented towards PhD students and young researchers. This CIMPA school and workshop brought together 60 participants, among which about 35-40 percent were from foreign countries. With 6 selected lectures given by well-known specialist in the field and some more invited talks at the workshop, this CIMPA school and workshop was an important event to provide a stimulating intellectual environment for researchers from Viet Nam and neighboring countries in Asia to interact.
