Health recommendations
- Health Insurance
- We strongly advise you to get health insurance before leaving your country. Please check with your travel agency for specific details.
- Water
- Tap water in Mexico is not clean enough to drink. We recommend that you drink only bottled water while in Mexico (around MX$10 per 1lt bottle; somewhat higher prices are to be expected in tourist areas).
- Food
- You will find a wide variety of restaurants ranging from those serving international and Mexican food, to specialty restaurants serving Chinese, Italian, French, Grilled meat, and others, and, of course, let us not forget the unavoidable fast food. Mexican food varies widely between regions. Food in Monterrey is not as strong and spicy as is found in other parts of the Country. You might want to sample the local cuisine as well as dishes from the rest of Mexico. It is famed worldwide for its variety, tastiness and sophistication. However, we strongly recommend that you avoid heavy meals, especially if accompanied by tequila or other strong drinks. Taste small portions and drink plenty of mineral water. It is also a good idea to have anti-acid medicine handy in case you overdo it. Please, do not eat food sold out on the street, for it is likely to make you ill if you are unaccustomed to it.
