Scientific Programme
The theme of EARCOME 7 is “In Pursuit of Quality Mathematics Education for All.” This resonates with the need for good quality mathematics education to be inclusive of all students regardless of their gender, background and contexts.
EARCOME 7 will consist of the following activities: Plenary Lectures (PL), Regular Lectures (RL), Topic Study Groups (TSG), Workshops (W), Special Sharing Groups (SSG), Plenary Panel Discussion (PD) and Poster Presentations (PP).
Plenary Lectures (PL)
These are one-hour lectures delivered by invited speakers.
Plenary Panel Discussion (PD)
This is a one and a half hour session during which invited panelists present and discuss their thoughts on the agreed theme.
Regular Lectures (RL)
These are one-hour parallel lectures delivered by invited speakers.
Topic Study Groups (TSG)
These are parallel sessions for sharing research with colleagues who work in the same area of interest. Participants whose papers have been accepted for TSGs will have 10-15 min to present orally. Invited TSG Chairs will facilitate and manage the TSG sessions.
Workshops (W)
These are parallel sessions facilitated by invited mathematics educators. They are one and a half hour sessions during which participants learn about the subject matter through hands-on activities.
Special Sharing Groups (SSG)
These are parallel sessions during which participants discuss practical matters in relation to the teaching and learning of mathematics in the classroom. The invited SSG Discussion Leaders will determine the focus of discussions and take charge of the sessions. Participants will select the SSG that they wish to be part of.
Poster Presentation (PP)
Posters are an alternative way to sharing research. Participants whose posters have been accepted will have one hour to present and discuss their research.
The TSG themes are:
TSG 1: Quality Mathematics Curriculum and Materials
TSG 2: Quality Mathematics Classroom Practices
TSG 3: Quality Mathematics Assessment
TSG 4: Quality Mathematics Teacher Education and Development
TSG 5: Quality Use of ICT in Mathematics
TSG 6: Quality Use of Language and Discourse in Mathematics
TSG 7: Quality Early Childhood and Lower Primary Mathematics Education
