The 9th International Congress on Mathematical Education will be held in Tokyo/Makuhari, Japan, from July 31 to August 6, 2000. An interim announcement of ICME-9 has appeared in the previous issue of this Bulletin. The Second Announcement is now available and can be obtained from the ICME-9 Secretariat (see address below). It can also be accessed on the website of the congress:
Keeping on with the tradition of the recent ICMEs, the Japanese National Organizing Committee is proposing a program of financial support for mathematics educators from non-affluent countries who, without this aid, would not be able to participate in ICME-9. The money available for this program amounts to approximately 10% of the total of registration fees, as was the case for ICME-8. It comes from a "Solidarity Tax" of 7% taken on all registrations, as well as from grants from Japanese sponsors and a generous grant of CHF 20 000 provided for ICME-9 by the International Mathematical Union (IMU). It should be noted that in all cases the support will be partial, so that grantees are expected to find ways of covering part of their expenses within their home countries.
The reader is reminded of the following important deadlines:
February 15 | Early registration |
February 29 | Application for a grant
Proposals for projects, exhibitions, workshops |
March 15 | Proposals for short presentations |
March 31 | Proposals for meetings |
May 31 | Application for hotel accommodations and tours |
June 15 | Regular registration |
