The Executive Committee of ICMI has great pleasure in announcing its recent decision to accept the invitation received from the Danish ICMI Committee to hold the 10th International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME-10) in Copenhagen in July 2004. This invitation was presented on behalf of the Nordic countries Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, which have agreed to support the holding of ICME-10 in Copenhagen and to combine efforts in providing the Congress with a distinctive Nordic flavor.
Such a Nordic component of ICME-10 will happen not only by having representatives of the Nordic countries on the Local Organizing Committee and the International Program Committee, but also by making particular efforts to recruit Nordic mathematics educators as participants in the Congress and as contributors to the scientific program to a larger extent than is usually seen. In this context it is likely that some of the Local Organizers of Working and Topic Groups may come not from Denmark only, but from the other Nordic countries as well. Moreover, it is the hoped that the other Nordic countries will be able to generate some financial and logistic support for the Congress.
The Executive Committee is very happy of such an approach to the organization
of an ICME and wishes to thank the Ad Hoc
Committee, and the involved organizations and individuals, for their
impressive work in the preparation of the invitation. The
Executive Committee of ICMI is convinced that ICME-10 will be crowned
with success in all respects and is looking forward to a
fruitful collaboration with our Nordic colleagues on this challenging
task.
