Presenting this morning at the 2018 ICM, scholar Rahul Panharipande broke down the past decade’s progress of research into cohomology calculus for the moduli space of curves parallel to better understandings in other geometries. The professor fielded questions from inquisitive listeners following his presentation, answering questions and greeting colleagues.
Panharipande was born in India in 1969, and is the son of prominent nuclear physicist Vijay Raghunath Pandharipande. He has taught at the California Institute of Technology, Princeton and is professor at ETH Zurich since 2011. His research interests include moduli spaces and their enumerative variants, including Gromov–Witten invariants and Donaldson–Thomas invariants, and the cohomology of the moduli space of curves.
